Aside from telling it painfully just like it is in regards to the plight of men and how it has meant the disntigration of family, marriage, fahterhood, etc... you also have a gift for teaching and writing.

Your critique is really solid and well representative of the reality fo life - not the fairy tale presented in Charismatic movement or the religiosity presented in some other churches. Let's call it authentic catacomb Christianity.

I would be greatly interested to learn what you do in life.

Aside from that, I have to say that after 2 years of my head spinning as I digest the crisis which is happening in our society, I really have gotten to a point where I have accepted the fact that it is WAY too far gone to do anything about it. It has beeen an agonizing realization, since just 2 years ago I had this wonderful dream of marriage and family. Then I learned first hand what is going on in relationships in this society: Flippancy. Abandonment. Self seeking. Courtship is utterly dead. Marriage is just an afterthought or conditional upon happiness. Men are utterly emasculated and greatly discouraged for their own natural qualities as men and then women ask where all the men are (?!?!?!?!) as they reject us one after another. We aren't een allowed to approach or pursue women anymore - we can be arrested or accused of harassment for it. We have become so timid and gunshy, we are scared to even talk to women and then women wonder why they don't get approached.

It is an increasing nuerotic and disconnected society where sexual desire is just an endlessly unfulfillable burning madness for most Christians, men and women alike. I myself wrestle terribly with it.

This society is finished. May God have mercy on us. I'll start with asking mercy for me and my inequities and instances of stepping into the pit or immorality in light of the unfulfilled sexual desire, loneliness, etc. God help us.NewJAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16446775099896760602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423802276620945726.post-29826243941659048252009-05-19T23:05:11.621-05:002009-05-19T23:05:11.621-05:00"Functionalism?".... A man's worth is not determined by what he does, anymore than a fetus' humanity is determined by acting like humans do. The two propositions stand or fall together.

Faith without works is dead (James 2:20). Manhood, all the more so. Then the paralytic is not a man according to your reasoning. James 2:20 is not a suitable prooftext for this discourse. Faith is indeed dead without works, but I am most assuredly not granted atonement through them.

In the paralytic or disabled God is glorified (John 9:1-3), but as for the able-bodied who choose not to fulfill their potential...?What "potential"? That which is commanded by God or by traditionalists?

They may be saved by grace, God willing (as well as be considered men , at least chronologically and chromosomally) but how much do they bring glory to God if their solitude is based on anger or apathy? Christ, Peter, Paul, Luke,Having studied the Gospels and Acts, I conclude they hated the legalism of the religious leaders which tried to impose extrabiblical commandments on people.

Going back to functionalism, haven't you just said that you should be valued just what you do? Now, you're valuing a covenant of God by what it can do for you. Isn't this another contradiction?I urge you to reread my statements. My focus wasn't primarily on God's covenant (except to say that humanity functions by covenant, too), but essentially on society's covenant with man. Moreover, my concern with functionalism had to do with questioning one's manhood and worth (functionalism being a very ungodly approach to how one treats other human beings), not with the idea that man should be apathetic (something I denounce at the end).

1 Cor 7:28 does not hold up abstention from marriage for the sake of individuals subjectively deeming it a corrupted institution, but for the sake of a crisis facing the Corithians understood in that historical context.Your point is taken. I've made the correction to v. 32 (which talks about married life in general and follows after the discussion of the "present distress").

Sure, just make sure it's the "whole truth".Indeed, the admonishment is for all of us.Anakin Niceguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09175647581810782580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423802276620945726.post-78217573456986222552009-05-19T17:50:10.390-05:002009-05-19T17:50:10.390-05:00"Functionalism?".... In the paralytic or disabled God is glorified (John 9:1-3), but as for the able-bodied who choose not to fulfill their potential...? At least those who make themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom know with certain that their manhood is exactly what they have given up.

"Biblical manhood is a male state of being"....this sounds like the theme song from Grease.

"The Regulative Principle of Manhood is rooted in the concept of sola scriptura. That is, the Word of God is the sole authority for determining the spiritual requirements of manhood"..."Ultimately, the Regulative Principle of Manhood grants men considerable freedom in defining their masculinity."

These statements, aside from being somewhat contradictive, seem to wish limitation to the letter of the law, rather than the spirit of it as taught by scriptural examples, eg. Christ, Peter, Paul, Luke,

"Whatever obligation they would impose upon men must be offset by some meaningful benefit to men...The reason for this is as follows: God is one who interacts with humanity by means of covenant. Humanity's obedience to God is rewarded by blessings from God. Disobedience is rewarded with punishment (2 Cor. 5:10) (as was the case with the kingdom of Judah). Humanity is created in the image of God and interactions between people are governed by God's moral law (Matt. 7:12). Thus, the idea of covenant is central to the function of a healthy society. "Covenant breakers" are judged harshly by God's word (Rom. 1:31, ASV).

When society breaks its covenant with men, it condemns itself. Men do not have an obligation to promote a system of human interactions or an institution that is morally corrupt (Revelation 18:2-5). Men have the right to turn their backs on such."

Going back to functionalism, haven't you just said that you should be valued just what you do? Men have the right to turn their backs on such...The moment society declared that the "personal" was "the political" was the moment men could no longer trust in the stability of the most basic social institution of all--marriage. Since men have no scriptural obligation to personally embrace this institution, their personal rejection of marriage is their inalienable right (1 Cor. 7:28)."

1 Cor 7:28 does not hold up abstention from marriage for the sake of individuals subjectively deeming it a corrupted institution, but for the sake of a crisis facing the Corithians understood in that historical context.

"men can embrace biblical manhood by first embracing the truth."

Sure, just make sure it's the "whole truth".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423802276620945726.post-77381555882923519252009-05-17T18:17:00.000-05:002009-05-17T18:17:00.000-05:00More generally, men do not have obligation to prot...More generally, men do not have obligation to protect and support a culture that belittles and devalues them. They are, in this respect, justified in "going their own way." A culture that does not cherish men is accursed. Barrenness is the death sentence. Such a culture must repent of its stance towards men before it is too late.
.
Amen! A great summation of many of our society's problems. Once a society alienates and "loses" its men, it's left without the support/defense for basics like individual freedom, strong families, etc. Methinks the only way to get the support back, and thus preserve those building blocks of a free and just society, is to bring masculinity back. I'd be surprised if our culture isn't beyond the "point of no return" you allude to in the last sentence above though.Jessehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08230522949462529502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4423802276620945726.post-4539902084234969072009-05-16T15:15:00.000-05:002009-05-16T15:15:00.000-05:00Anakin --
